Service provider to the aerospace industry, Axis Electronics, has won the contract to manufacture a key system component for AeroMobile, a cell phone radio frequency management unit (CRFMU) designed to allow aircraft passengers to use their mobile phones while flying.
According to client, ARINC, the deciding factors in selecting Axis were the companys experience of manufacturing high reliability products for avionics vehicles and a highly commended quality assurance audit.
As such, Axis will carry out design for manufacture, complex build, test and environmental screening of the product, and will work alongside ARINCs design partner TTP.
The system, which will allow 1.5 billion potential travellers to use their own mobile phone and personal digital assistant (PDA) while on an aircraft, will begin installation mid 2006 and is expected to take off with other aircraft operators in the near future.
