Distributor, Components Bureau, is helping UK purchasers tap into low cost manufacturing in the Far East, following its agreement to represent Asian electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, Surface Mount Technology (SMT) in the UK. The deal will provide UK companies with local and international support when they attempt to outsource production to the Far East.
Customers are presented with a single price, which can include material procurement, assembly, ICT, functional test, conformal coating, final assembly, import to the UK and delivery or shipment to a distribution centre. Components Bureau offers its own facilities as a buffer for JIT programs and can also compare European raw materials pricing with costs from SMT in Asia.
Headquartered in Hong Kong, SMT has three production plants in China with a combined area of 620,000ft, over 100 surface mount lines and 10,000 employees. All three plants are certified for quality management and environmental compliance with ISO/TS 16949 for the automotive industry.
As part of the announcement, Component Bureaus commercial manager Andrew Ferrier will take responsibility for the outsourcing service, while Chris Wilson will take over responsibility for components and distribution.
