San Angelo, Tex. — Hirschfeld Wind Energy Solutions, part of Hirschfeld Industries, and Martifer Energy Systems, part of Martifer Group, based in Portugal, have announced the creation of a joint venture for the manufacture of wind towers and related components in the U.S. to serve the North American markets.
The joint venture, Martifer-Hirschfeld Energy Systems LLC, will be equally held by each party, leveraging Martifer Group’s expertise in the manufacture of wind power components with the local footprint and infrastructure fabrication experience of Hirschfeld.
Initially, the joint venture will develop a factory in San Angelo, Texas, for the production of steel towers for wind turbine generators. Up until now, the site was developed solely by Martifer Energy Systems, and represents a total investment of about $40 million and the creation of 225 jobs. The factory is expected to reach a capacity of 400 towers by 2013.
