Smyrna, Ga. Murata Electronics North America has claimed the industry’s thinnest embedded monolithic capacitor for substrates with the introduction of the GRU series.
Using advanced ceramic technology, the new 0402 size capacitor, measuring 1.0 x 0.5 x 0.15 mm, is built into the substrate for placement below integrated circuits (ICs) and other electronics.
The GRU series was developed using Murata’s leading-edge dielectric material expertise to achieve the industry’s lowest profile at 150 microns with a sophisticated external electrode formation to reduce the component’s thickness, while providing a capacitance of 0.1 microfarad. The built-in feature also enhances equipment performance by reducing wiring inductance, said Murata.
Other key specs of the 0402-sized capacitor include a rated voltage of 6.3 Vdc and a X5R dielectric. The design also provides reliable connectivity via plating by using copper-plated terminations that can withstand the build-up process.
Pricing: The GRU series (global part number: GRU15YR60J104KE01*) is priced at five cents.
Availability: Lead times are approximately 12 to 14 weeks.
