Tiny magnetic switches target appliance, consumer electronics, security apps

murataamrSmyrna, Ga. — Murata Electronics North America has introduced its smallest anisotropic magneto resistance (AMR) switch, measuring 1.0 x 0.9 x 0.5 mm. The AS series is suitable for open/close detection in white goods such as refrigerators and dishwashers, security equipment and consumer electronics products including cell phones, laptops and digital cameras.

Designed as a replacement for traditional mechanical switches, the waterproof magnetic switches are available in both high (1.5mT) and low (3.0mT) sensitivity models. The switches also feature low power consumption, requiring only 1.6 uA/1.8V or 4.7 uA/5V.
