Boston, Mass. The head of the embedded business for Numonyx B.V. told the industry to look at the memory subsystem for ways to simplify and speed their embedded designs at this week’s Embedded Systems Conference.
Glen Hawk, vice president and general manager of the Embedded Business Group at Numonyx during his keynote, said this would provide cost and time advantages as well as drive further innovation in the embedded segment.
At the same time, Numonyx announced the introduction of a new memory solution aimed at automotive infotainment applications. The eMMC architecture is comprised of an embedded storage solution with a multimedia card interface, flash memory device and host controller — all in a small BGA package. With interface speeds of up to 52 MB per second, the Numonyx eMMC provides fast and scalable performance, while allowing for an interface voltage of either 1.8V or 3.3V, said the company. All Numonyx eMMC solutions are based on the MMCA/JEDEC industry standard.
The eMMC for automotive solutions include advanced electrical and temperature screening to deliver performance and reliability over a temperature range of -40° to +85°C, which is aligned with automotive grade and AEC-Q100 key requirements, said Numonyx.
To improve the robustness and resistance to mechanical vibration, the eMMC products are available in a BGA 100 package with 1-mm ball pitch to provide greater device reliability and to comply with automotive requirements. The products use materials that meet the European Union’s Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements.
