Smyrna, Ga. — Murata Electronics North America has claimed the industry’s first surface-mount multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) that meets the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) RCX-2326 standard. This standard regulates capacitance in real-world operating conditions and was adopted because capacitance in ferroelectric materials, when used in voltage dependent ceramic capacitors, can vary between the nominal capacitance and the capacitance under actual in-service circumstances, said Murata.
The GW series, which is available in three options — length width (LW) reverse two-terminal construction, three-terminal construction and two-terminal construction – is the first on the market to meet these standards by guaranteeing the capacitance of 100 μF under actual operating conditions, according to Murata.
The LW reverse, three-terminal and conventional two-terminal constructions, all provide high capacitance and low impedance, offering significant downsizing in equipment as it reduces the number of different components required, said Murata. For example, in LW reverse construction, the capacitor’s electrodes are oriented parallel to the long side of the capacitor, which delivers low impedance over a very wide frequency band. The LW reverse design also lowers inductance.
All GW series capacitors provide 100μF capacitance with a rated DC voltage of 2.5 V. The operating temperature range is -25°C to 105°C
Together, the high capacitance, low impedance and component reduction make the GW series suitable for decoupling capacitor applications in power-supply circuits of low-voltage driven devices, integrated circuits (IC), central processing units (CPUs), large scale integration (LSIs) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
