TI tops power IC ranking

Wellingborough, UK — Texas Instruments (TI) remains the largest supplier in the power management and driver IC market in 2010, according to preliminary research results from IMS Research. Power IC suppliers experienced robust growth last year, which resulted in some capacity issues as they struggled to meet demand, said the market research firm.

The preliminary report also estimates that Linear Technologies gained the most market share from 2009 to 2010, increasing by 1.1 percent of the total, to almost catch Infineon Technologies, which is estimated to have lost 0.2 percent of the market. Linear moved up from sixth place in 2009 to number three globally in 2010.

National Semiconductor is estimated to have lost the most market share from 2009 to 2010, ranking sixth globally. STMicroelectronics maintained its fifth place ranking despite a loss in market share. Maxim Integrated Products remained fourth globally, also capturing market share in 2010.

IMS expects that TI will continue to strengthen its position as the largest supplier in the market due to its impending acquisition of National Semiconductor.
