Irvine, Calif. Broadcom Corp. will purchase NetLogic Microsystems, Inc., a manufacturer of network communications processors, for $50 per share in a transaction of about $3.7 billion. The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2012.
Based in Santa Clara, Calif., NetLogic’s product lines and technologies, including knowledge-based processors, multi-core embedded processors, and digital front-end processors, will extend Broadcom’s infrastructure portfolio. This will give the semiconductor manufacturer of wired and wireless communications solutions a portfolio of seamlessly-integrated network infrastructure platforms.
