MicroEmissive Displays (MED) is ramping up its European sales and marketing efforts with the appointment of Silicon Design, the new rep/stockist arm of the Spectrum Electronics Group. Operating from offices throughout Europe, Silicon Design will market MEDs polymer organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED) microdisplay technology and Eyescreen products. Ideal for portable head mounted displays and electronic viewfinder applications, the P-OLED technology is said to combine colour moving video with ultra-low power consumption. The Eyescreen, with its integrated driver ICs and digital interface, offers a design-in solution for small, light-weight products with a size comparable with the pupil of the human eye.
MED’s chief executive, Bill Miller, said: The time is right for us to complement our expanded manufacturing capacity with a sales and marketing thrust. Having secured the resources to achieve volume production at our Dresden facility, we have already won contracts worth over $10m. With the appointment of Silicon Design we are set to expand sales with a partner, chosen for its knowledge, support and customer relationships.
Managing director of Spectrum Electronics Group, Nigel Watts, added: Silicon Design was founded to support emerging companies such as MicroEmissive Displays. MEDs Eyescreen has great potential for mobile video applications, but it will take a particular portfolio of commercial and technical value added services to realise this potential fully. Weve already seen a lot of interest in the Eyescreen from customers designing next generation hand-held video games, mobile TV, web enabled mobile phones and video and still cameras.
