Molex has added to its small media interconnect (SMI) family with a low cost all-in-one connector field termination tool. The SMI plastic optical fibre end-to-end interconnect system provides an easy-to-terminate, lightweight and more cost-effective solution than its traditional glass- or copper-cabling counterparts. Moreover, SMI is an industry standard that is gaining acceptance as POF interconnect solutions for applications ranging from internal equipment data links to set-top box interfaces, IPTV and home networking applications.
The SMI all-in-one field termination tool provides an efficient and repeatable end-user field termination of the SMI connector. In addition to the reusable precision blade, the tool allows for the crimping of the cable to the SMI connector for a complete field termination.
The SMI plastic optical interconnect solution from Molex includes SMI optoelectronic transceivers, adapters, connectors and cable assemblies, as well as complementary media converters and termination tooling.
