UK boards go the distance

PCB assemblies manufactured by UK contract electronics services provider, Prism Electronics, are to be used as part of a rapid transit system built to support the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Prism has supplied 400 PCBs to ERB South Africa, which is manufacturing signalling equipment for the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link project, designed to link Pretoria in the north with Johannesburg in the south. The tested assemblies comprise receivers, incorporating Prism assemblies and transmitters fitted to rail track and to rolling stock.

The company believes its reputation as a trusted supplier for other rail signalling projects sealed the deal. Business development director of Prism Electronics, David Dickin, commented: Word of mouth is perhaps the most effective form of advertising and we are delighted to be working with ERB to help deliver this project.
