ECIA releases electronic component manufacturing monthly order index report

The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) has released its January report of order information. The monthly order index continued its recent fluctuations with the first month of 2012 looking to follow the upswing in the overall US economy.  The 12-month moving average has remained relatively flat since mid-August 2011.

ECIA’s monthly report consolidates order information collected in confidence from leading electronic component manufacturers.  Bob Willis, ECIA executive VP/CTO, expects business infrastructure spending to drive demand for electronic components in the first half of 2012.

Economic activity has improved recently in the US marketplace with business spending resulting from pent-up demand,” says Willis.  “If business also expands the workforce, then investments in technology will follow.  Still, caution will rule many decisions as there is still too much uncertainty in the world economies.”
