US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Will Develop Global Standards
The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) is requesting participants for the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the international standards Technical Committee TC119 – Printed Electronics. TC119 is a new technical committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) with more than a dozen members including China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Germany, England, and the US. Any US interested parties with technical knowledge in the growing field of Printed Electronics are invited to become a member of this TAG and assist in this global standardization program.
According to the IEC, the market size for printed electronics in 2010 was $1.99 billion and is expected to grow to $55.10 billion by 2020. Presently there are more than 3000 companies related to the printed electronics industry. This activity presents a prime opportunity for the development of global standards to help facilitate this anticipated rapid rate of growth. The initial scope of the activities for TC119 will encompass standardization of terminology, materials, processes, equipment, products, and health/safety/environment that are related to the printing methods for electronics.
US TAG members participate by contributing their knowledge and expertise to the global standardization effort through development of comments, content and coordinated US voting positions on these globally recognized standards thus maintaining a proactive US position as a participant in the international standardization of this emerging technology. Members of the TAG also become eligible for selection as members of US delegations to the international meetings of the Technical Committee or as participants on Working Groups as technical experts. International travel is not required to become a member of the TAG and much of the activity will be conducted electronically.
