Optoisolator carries the UL, VDE, ATEX and IP certifications for harsh environments
TT electronics Optoelectronics Business Unit has announced that the OPI1268S has become the industry’s only high-voltage optoisolator to carry all four of the UL, VDE, ATEX/IECex and IP65 certifications for operation in harsh and potentially hazardous environments. Featuring 20KV isolation and less than 50ns propagation delay, the OPI1268S is ideal for metering equipment, transportation systems, hybrid vehicles, medical devices, and industrial control/safety systems.
“As the only device of its kind compliant to such a comprehensive range of certifications, the OPI1268S provides manufactures with confidence in meeting the high-voltage isolation specifications of a wide range of applications,” said Rodney Bailey, global applications engineering director for TT electronics Optoelectronics Business Unit. “The feedback from customers has been tremendous since the product began shipping last year, as we’ve worked closely with them to accommodate application-specific requirements for isolation and digital output.”
The OPI1268S optoisolator is based on a high-efficiency LED with a peak wavelength of 850nm, optically coupled to a photodiode that detects incoming modulated light and converts it to a proportionate current. The device features a high-gain linear amplifier that is temperature-, current-, and voltage-compensated, resulting in a highly stable digital output with a data transfer rate of 2Mbits/s and a typical propagation delay (tPHL-tPLH) of less than 50ns.
Capable of isolating voltages up to 20kV, the OPI1268S also provides a voltage spike immunity of 30KV/microS dv/dt. As a result, the OPI1268S is unprecedented in protecting users, robotic interfaces and control circuits from high voltage.
Additional features include an input diode with a forward voltage of 1.8V (max) @IF = 20mA and a continuous forward current of 50mA. Reverse current is 100mircoA (max) @VR = 2.0V with reverse voltage of 3.0V. The output IC operates with 7V supply voltage with 40mW power dissipation. Operating temperature range is from -50°C to +100°C.
