element14’s innovative journey crosses 100,000 members

  • Over 470,000 minutes of viewed content each week from 130 countries
  • Widest conversation is 7,872 miles

element14, the first collaborative community and electronics store for design engineers and electronics enthusiasts and a part of global electronics distributor Premier Farnell, have announced the number of registered members has reached 100,000.

Since its launch in June 2009, the collaborative online community, specifically built for electronics design engineers, has become the first information portal and electronics store where users have first hand access to 46 industry leading manufacturers, technical documents, webinars, product RoadTest, videos on element14 TV and the latest updates on electronics legislation.  As a thank you for being a part of this milestone, element14 is offering all 100,000 registered members a 10% discount voucher on their next purchase.

With over 470,000 minutes of viewed content each week from 130 of the 196 countries in the world, the community is known as a place where members can find answers to questions fast.  Engineering members share their expertise with the widest conversation that occurred between two members 7,872 miles apart and the quickest solution to a problem was provided in just 4 hours.

Engineers and electronics enthusiasts have used the community to connect seamlessly with the products, information and tools they need to do their jobs faster and easier than ever before,  via resources such as “Ask an Expert,” free product “RoadTests” and the Knode, a search tool that helps design engineers start their design. The Knode is a search bar that searches products, applications, data sheets so that an engineer can start and finish their design quickly and easily.

“The element14 community has fostered several innovations since its launch with the one aim of supporting design engineers of tomorrow by providing them with a single destination for research, collaboration and product solutions,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community, element14. “We constantly seek to nurture innovation by supporting our community in its quest to push the boundaries of what is possible in this fast moving industry. Our newly launched Ultimate Roadtest competition is testament to this aim.”

The Ultimate RoadTest stretches the capabilities of three highly skilled and creative engineers from across the globe.  It challenges them to design and build a working prototype application using existing development tools, software, and design tools (including CadSoft EAGLE) to create a real-world solution within the Home Automation market. The end application must include functional elements including wireless, sensing, motor control, and lighting.
