Review Display Systems Ltd (RDS), specialist provider of optimal technical and commercial display system solutions, announces the new TechNexion RISC-based HMI Computing series.
Recognising the need for OEMs and end-users to automate their applications quickly and cost-efficiently, RDS has joined forces with TechNexion. This Taiwan based company manufactures board level, system level and fully integrated industrial computer products and now offers a complete range of flexible ARM® Cortex™-A8 based systems that are built around a highly optimised CPU ‘System On Module’ (SoM) for the UK industrial market.
This newly developed range of fanless and low power HMIs starts with a 6.5-inch screen (Th-0635) through 8.4-inch (Th-0835), 10.4-inch (Th-1035), 12.1-inch (Th-1235) up to 15-inch (Th-1535) and uses high quality LED backlit LCD touch-screen panels. The range is based around the lightning-fast TI Sitara AM3517 Cortex-A8 ARM microprocessor with excellent graphics capabilities while all systems within the range are encased in modern, scratch resistant, hard anodised, brushed aluminium front bezels. Bezels can be supplied in any colour to match corporate identities, and customer logos can be incorporated in the software bootloader if required.
The broad range of applications includes industrial automation and small businesses that want to show their website, or shops that want to show product. Resolution ranges from 640×480 to 1024×768, with one unit boasting an 800 nits display – ideal for sunlight applications.
TechNexion is a strong believer in open source software and hardware platforms and so all source code BSPs are freely available for download by customers from TechNexion’s website, which can then be customised to fit specific application requirements. Software support is available in the form of BSPs for the following operating systems; Android, Linux 2.6.x, WinCE 6.0 and Windows Embedded Compact 7.
These fan-less, low power, rugged, industrial HMIs can be clamp mounted with easy-to-fix fasteners, open-frame mounted for integrating into your own system design or VESA mounted using any commercially available VESA 75 mounting kit. An optional magnet mount enables a true ‘in-wall’ HMI display without visible fastening devices.
Supplied with a Phoenix power connector, the systems have two serial ports and an additional CAN bus to interconnect with and control remote devices. USB and networking ports are also included. An external DIP switch allows the altering of boot behaviour, upgrading or configuration of the serial port between RS-232 and -422 or -485.
