Linear Technology’s new LTC2389-18 is well suited for demanding designs that require maximum signal swings at low power levels in noisy industrial environments. This 18-bit no cycle latency successive approximation register (SAR) analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) achieves 99.8dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) and -116dB total harmonic distortion (THD) at sample rates up to 2.5Msps. Operating from a 5V supply, it supports three pin-configurable analogue input ranges, interfacing to multiple signal chains with a single device. For the highest SNR performance, the device can be configured for fully differential inputs. The pseudo-differential unipolar and bipolar analogue input ranges enable lower power single-ended drive and benefit from the reduction of unwanted signals common to both inputs.
The LTC2389-18 boasts equally impressive DC performance, featuring ±3 least significant bit (LSB) integral non-linearity (INL), ±10LSB offset error and 18 bits no missing codes resolution. It also features a 4.096V precision internal reference with a 20ppm/°C temperature coefficient, providing space savings for high density designs. The LTC2389-18 dissipates 162.5mW at 2.5Msps and features a shutdown mode that reduces power dissipation to 75µW when not converting. Specifications are guaranteed over the -40 to 125ºC temperature range.
