Latest edition of the interactive publication also includes enhanced features for existing iPad, Android and printed versions
RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has launched a new iPhone application for its eTech magazine, and has introduced a range of reader-enhancing features to the existing iPad, Android and printed versions of the company’s free-of-charge and highly interactive publication.
The first release of eTech for iPhone is available in the English language, and has been styled to enable iPhone users to gain fast, easy access to information and updates on the latest range of electronics products, technologies and online design resources offered by RS.
The launch of eTech for the new iPad brings razor-sharp viewing enabled by the high resolution (2048 x 1536) Retina display, which features a groundbreaking 3.1 million pixels. eTech for iPad is published in three languages – English, Chinese and Japanese – increasing accessibility to the full range of RS services for suppliers and customers in the important markets of China and Japan.
Launched in the English language in May 2012, the eTech Android app now includes versions in Chinese and Japanese, significantly boosting the number of tablet users able to view the interactive publication in their local language.
In addition, RS is exploiting the capabilities of the Aurasma augmented reality platform to allow readers of the printed version of eTech to automatically display relevant digital content on their smart device. Aurasma uses the device’s video camera to recognise trigger images to activate the display. The platform is primarily designed to run on internet enabled mobile devices such as the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad 2, 3 and higher-end Android devices.
“eTech magazine is growing in importance and popularity as a channel through which our suppliers and customers keep abreast of the latest electronics products and services offered by RS,” said Glenn Jarrett, Global Head of Product Marketing at RS. “Providing this information in a range of easily downloadable formats and languages broadens accessibility across the globe and raises awareness of the evolving suite of free design tools available to engineers from RS.”
