According to findings from the Electronic Components Industry Association, capacitor manufacturers continued to see improved bookings and sales in the first quarter of 2017 in North America. Sales for the first quarter totalled 34.8 billion units, worth $322M.
Overall, sales were up 6.5 per cent in units and 0.5 per cent in dollars, while bookings were up 7.5 per cent in units and 6.6 per cent in dollars. Just over half of the products were shipped into the OEM and EMS channel while the remaining product went into the distributor channel. Looking at capacitor sales by product category, the largest was ceramics at 55 per cent followed by aluminum at 18 per cent, then tantalum, paper and film and finally supercapacitors at two per cent.
