Training underpins manufacturing’s winning formula

ART’s managing director, Debbie Wade, explains why the company is a one-stop-shop for resources required to increase quality/productivity and reduce rework

Whether an OEM or CEM requires certified or bespoke training courses, ART offers the knowledge and trainers to support their needs. Many companies don’t need certified training but like to provide evidence their personnel have received industry-based training to support their products or processes. ART specialises in preparing and presenting bespoke syllabuses, working with each customer to ensure the content, duration and theory, versus practical proportions, meet their needs.

Bespoke courses include: introduction to hand soldering; rework of surface mount devices; rework and repair of printed circuit assemblies; wire and terminal assembly and soldering; and cable and wire harness assemblies.

Should a customer or internal quality plan require official IPC certification, ART (as an IPC Approved Training Provider) offers IPC certified courses to all three levels of instruction: Certified IPC Trainer-CIT, Certified IPC Specialist-CIS and Certified Standards Expert-CSE. Choosing the right level of certification is important. Certification lets individuals provide insight to IPC standards and how they are applied within manufacturing.

CIS training and certification is appropriate for individuals that will benefit by having a consistent understanding of the standard’s criteria. Line operators, engineers and quality engineers will find this training and certification beneficial.

The Certified Standards Expert (CSE) is a subject matter professional with a high level of knowledge and understanding of a specific IPC standard or group of standards and will allow the CSE to: act as a subject matter expert for their organisation, answering standard related questions, providing support to various levels of the organisation and interpreting the standard for their organisation; update the organisation on the latest standards and best practices from industry; and interface with designers and process engineers to develop assembly processes.

CITs are authorised to deliver and administer CIS training and certification examinations to individuals who wish to gain IPC certification without the need for contracting external trainers.

ART is one of the only training centres globally to offer all IPC programmes, to all levels, including Space and Military Addendums for Cable and Wire Harnessing-IPC/WHMA-A-620 and Space and Military Addendum for Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies-J-STD-001.

ART can offer the following IPC certified training: IPC 6012, Qualification and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards; IPC-A-600, Acceptability of (Bare) Printed Boards; IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies; IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies Revision E now available; J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies; and IPC-7711/7721, Rework, Modification and Repair of Printed Boards and Electronic Assemblies.
