Electronics designers and purchasers are always looking to reduce costs without compromising performance or quality. Also, global tensions and conflicts have swung the spotlight onto supply chain security. Yet there is a growing awareness of the need for environmental sustainability. These seemingly opposing factors require innovative, responsible distributors to reassess their market strategies and services.

Anglia is a UK-based independent, authorised distributor focussed on customer service. The company’s UK-based inventory encompasses a wide range of electronic components from industry- leading franchises. Buying from Anglia, customers reduce the number and cost of their purchasing transactions, while the breadth and depth of stock minimise the need for backorders or multiple vendor orders. To streamline procurement, the company’s Anglia Live ordering platform updates UK inventory and pricinginformation in real-time, reflecting actual stock levels and future inventory based on shipments from the supplier network.

Anglia believes sustainability is not only the responsible course of action, but also believes it can—and indeed already has—helped improve competitiveness by changing working practices. This also benefits customers, not only by the savings that can be delivered, but also because these actions help them achieve their own sustainability goals.

For precisely these reasons, Anglia has built a new environmental resource hub on its eCommerce platform, Anglia Live Europe, which aims to provide environmental information on each of its supply partners in one place. This will reduce the time buyers and compliance engineers are required to spend on compliance documentation when analysing their supply chain to determine their own corporate emissions and ethical status. For each of Anglia’s authorised manufacturing partners, the hub provides links to various environmental and ethical statements, such as the company’s environmental policy, its position on conflict materials, REACH, Modern Slavery and international sanctions.

Listed suppliers have confirmed they are committed to compliance with environmental regulations with the ultimate aim of protecting the environment andmaking prudent use of natural resources. By presenting their statements or certifications in one place, customers can easily see the commitment their supply chain partners are making, speeding their own regulatory processes.

Anglia is highly committed to improving the environment and reducing its carbon footprint. A raft of other measures has been introduced over the past
18 months, including: new packaging which reduces waste and is both reuseable and recyclable; reduced air miles for components; and smart building practices.

Other initiatives include working with Climate Partner to fund schemes that offset Anglia’s carbon emissions which cannot currently be reduced to zero, supporting wildlife and introducing beehives to the landscaped grounds of the company’s two-acre distribution centre site.

Perhaps the best example of how environmental and commercial efforts can work hand-in-hand is the expansion of the Anglia Live eCommerce platform into Europe. EU customers can now benefit from a rapid one to two-day delivery service via Anglia’s UK distribution centre. Orders placed by 17:00 (CET) Monday to Thursday and 12:30 (CET) on Friday are dispatched the same day, with no minimum order value and free Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) delivery for orders over €50/$60.

Sustainability is a key advantage of the Anglia Live platform for both UK and EU customers it’s an imperative that is ingrained in Anglia’s company philosophy. Shipping goods from a UK distribution centre to mainland Europe generates seven times less CO2 compared to shipping from the US. Improved commercial service and reduced carbon footprint: a model for industry to follow?
