Boosting BoMs with nanocrystalline inductors

TTI IP&E Europe has announced availability of Chemi-Con’s FW series nanocrystalline inductors. The material’s high magnetic permeability reduces core volume and the number of copper wire turns needed to achieve a high performance, small size and lightweight design. The common mode choke coils can be used as input/output and DC line noise filters in various power source applications.

TTI Europe’s director industry marketing transportation, Dermot Byrne, recommends engineers replace conventional ferrite coils with the FW series to downsize their designs and said: “For example, you could exchange two conventional ferrite coils with one FW series nanocrystalline coil of the same size.”

Since the curie temperature is 570°C, the coil’s characteristics are maintained in high-temperature environments such as automotive applications. Advantages such as low resistance (1.2 to 26 mΩ max) and low heat generation let the coil be used in power sources for medical equipment, communication base stations and industrial equipment.
