Microchip PIC32MZ MCU available from RS Components

143010_microchip_pic32_bluetooth_starter_kit_lrRS Components has announced it is taking orders for the new PIC32MZ Embedded Connectivity (EC) family of 32-bit microcontrollers from Microchip. The PIC32MZ family includes 24 different product variants and provides three times the performance and four times more memory compared to the previous-generation PIC32MX families, in addition to a high level of advanced peripheral integration.

The family delivers top-class performance of 330 DMIPS and 3.28 CoreMarks/MHz, along with up to 2MB of dual-panel live-update Flash memory, 512KB of RAM, and connectivity peripherals including a 10/100 Ethernet MAC, Hi-Speed USB MAC/PHY and dual CAN ports. The internal Flash enables live updates via dual independent panels to provide a fail-safe way to conduct field updates while operating at full speed.

The PIC32MZ also offers code density that is 30% better than competitors, along with a 28-Msample/s ADC that offers one of the best throughput rates for 32-bit MCUs. In addition, the family integrates a full-featured hardware crypto engine with a random number generator for high-throughput data encryption/decryption and authentication, such as AES, 3DES, SHA, MD5 and HMAC), as well as the first SQI interface on a Microchip MCU and the PIC32’s family’s highest number of serial channels.

In addition to Hi-Speed USB, Ethernet and CAN interfaces, a broad set of wired and wireless protocol stacks is also available for applications requiring embedded connectivity. For embedded applications that require a high level of graphics, the PIC32MZ can also support displays up to WQVGA without external graphics chips. Streaming or digital audio applications can also take advantage of the family’s 159 DSP instructions, large memory and peripherals such as I2S.

The PIC32MZ is also Microchip’s first MCU to use Imagination’s MIPS microAptiv™ core, which adds 159 new DSP instructions that enable the execution of DSP algorithms at up to 75% fewer cycles than the PIC32MX families. This core also provides the microMIPS® instruction-set architecture, which improves code density while operating at near full rate, instruction and data cache, and its 200MHz/330 DMIPS offers three times the performance of the PIC32MX.

Also available via RS to support PIC32MZ based development are new tools including a turn-key starter kit, a multimedia expansion board and an extensive portfolio of application-specific daughter boards. The Microchip PIC32MZ family is now in stock at RS Components in EMEA.
