DDR5 SDRAM memory modules shipping now

Mouser Electronics is now stocking Kingston’s KSM64 DDR5 SDRAM memory modules which are designed to deliver higher performance, lower energy consumption and more robust data integrity than equivalent DDR4 modules. The modules meet the needs of high-performance systems for edge, AI, gaming, industrial, content creation workstations and servers/data centers.

The modules include 32 internal banks, increasing efficiency by allowing more pages to be open at the same time. While DDR4 tops out at  3200 MT/s, DDR5 starts at 4800 MT/s—a 50 per cent increase in bandwidth under JEDEC industry standard specifications—and has planned standard speeds that will scale to 8800 MT/s.

The modules feature on-die error correction code (ECC), which corrects bit errors in the DRAM chip and improves reliability. They also feature hard/soft post-package repair and sideband access with I3C/I2C. With a typical power supply of 1.1 V, the modules consume 20 per cent less power than equivalent DDR4 components.
