Electronics Sourcing 2005 to 2025 – The story so far!

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary of Electronics Sourcing, founder Mark Leary walks readers through how it all started.

Mark Leary, MMG Publishing’s founder and publisher had previously worked for electronic component and electronics assembly related print publications going back to 1992. This experience provided Mark with an excellent understanding of the electronics design, supply chain and manufacturing sectors of the electronics industry not just nationally but globally. 

In 2005, Mark identified a need for a purchasing related print publication for purchasing professionals and buyers and armed with detailed market research and with re-mortgaging the family home with his wife and kids who were 5 and 3 at the time, Mark started to build his brand new circulation of professionals who were responsible for buying electronic & electrical components for their manufacturing facilities. The original data was purchased and sourced from Companies House data to ensure that MMG provided the most up to date and targeted database of buyers compared to all other print magazines. With the kids playroom converted into a make shift office, the first day of trading for MMG was the 14th of February, 2005, Valentines Day! 

The first issue of Electronics Sourcing UK was published in April 2005. In 2006 we gained our first ABC independently audited circulation audit to prove our circulation quality and freshness. 

In November 2008, Electronics Sourcing Europe was launched to cater for electronics purchasing professionals in Europe and then following industry demand, Electronics Sourcing North America was launched in May 2010 with a 72,000 circulation and its first ABC audit was gained in 2011.

As well as on-line products, MMG has generated a wealth of experience organizing and running one day trade events catering for electronic component professionals in the UK and North America and today these events are branded as the “Electronic Component Show”. MMG also publishes “Designing Electronics North America” magazine in print format which is now the only print magazine with an independent ABC audited circulation for design engineers in North America. 

To this day, MMG is 100% independently run and owned by Mark and is keeping to its original blueprint which is to provide the very best and up to date circulations for all of our publications, providing the very best editorial content specifically written for our readers requirements and this in return provides the highest readership possible in the industry. 

Reader research is also a regular task at MMG and this research year after year, clearly highlights that over 85% of readers globally still prefer to receive their industry electronic component publications in print format!
