ARCOL Resistors has announced the availability of a new range of SMD Shunt Resistors as an alternative to the MSR through-hole style. There are two resistors in the CRS family, offering the advantage of lower ohmic values. The CRS1575 SMD Shunt Resistor ranges from 0.2m? to 3m?, and the CRS1050 SMD Shunt Resistor ranges from 0.5m? to 4m?.
The CRS SMD shunt resistors feature a very low inductance value of <3nH, ensuring an unrestricted flow of current. This is especially important in high frequency applications.
State-of-the art Electron Beam Welding is used in their construction to connect to resistive element to the heavy-duty copper connectors. Two resistive elements are offered: Manganin or NiCr. The Manganin option provides lower ohmic values.
The Electron Beam Welding manufacture process ensures that the SMD Shunt resistors have excellent long-term stability, with a load life of ±1% (rated at 90minutes “ON” and 30minutes “OFF” over 2000 hours). The resistors are very tolerant of overload situations – they can withstand an overload of five times rated power for 5 seconds.
The CRS resistors’ power rating ranges from 2.5 to 7.0 Watts. The resistors are suitable for reflow soldering or welding on copper and the resistance to solder heating is ±0.2% 350°C for 30 seconds or 250°C for 10min. The in-service operating temperature range is a wide band of -55°C to +170°C.
The ARCOL CRS SMD Shunt Resistors are suitable for applications such as solar inverters; frequency converters; current sensors for hybrid power sources; PLC control boards; power systems; and motor control systems.
